Regnum Books Appoints First Director as It Enters a New Chapter

Regnum Books is delighted to announce the appointment of Angus Crichton as its first-ever Director.
This appointment marks an important milestone in the development of Regnum. After many years of leadership and stewardship of Regnum alongside his wider responsibilities as Executive Director of the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (OCMS), Dr Paul Bendor-Samuel is now able to entrust the day-to-day leadership of Regnum to dedicated publishing expertise.
For some time, Regnum has been seeking the right person to help shape its future—someone with deep publishing experience and a commitment to theological scholarship emerging from the Majority World. In Angus Crichton, we believe we have found exactly that.
Joining Regnum on a part-time basis, Angus brings extensive experience in Christian publishing and a longstanding passion for amplifying theological voices from across the Global South. Most recently, he served as Global Advocacy Manager at SPCK and has been closely involved in publishing initiatives in Uganda and across Anglophone Africa.
Over the past two decades, Angus has combined research, teaching, and publishing with a particular focus on Christianity in Africa. He has collaborated with theological colleges and scholars across the continent and worked to strengthen access to locally rooted theological scholarship. He also served as a Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide, researching the early history of Christianity in Uganda and exploring ways to make archival resources more accessible to Ugandan researchers.
At the heart of Angus’s work is a conviction that rich theological insight emerges not only from institutions but from churches, communities, and lived Christian experience. He has also been a thoughtful advocate for more collaborative and accessible approaches to publishing, helping address barriers that scholars in the Global South continue to face.
These priorities align closely with the vision of Regnum Books.
As the publishing arm of OCMS, Regnum exists to make rigorous, contextually grounded research accessible to the global Church. Through monographs, edited volumes, and shorter Mini Books, Regnum seeks to provide a platform for voices that might otherwise remain unheard—particularly from contexts where Christianity is growing most rapidly.
Dr Paul Bendor-Samuel, Executive Director of OCMS, said:
“Regnum Books has been a deeply valued part of OCMS for many years and it has been a privilege to help steward its growth alongside my wider responsibilities at the Centre. Throughout that time, Regnum has sought to serve the global Church by making rigorous and contextually rooted scholarship accessible to a wider audience. I am delighted that Angus is joining us at this point in Regnum’s journey. He brings extensive publishing expertise, deep relationships across the global Church, and a shared commitment to ensuring that voices from the Majority World are heard, valued, and strengthened.”
Angus Crichton said:
“I am honoured to join Regnum Books at such an important moment in its development. Regnum has built a remarkable reputation for publishing research that is both academically rigorous and deeply connected to the life and mission of the global Church. I look forward to building on that foundation through partnership, widening access, and helping bring important voices and research to readers across cultures and contexts.”
We are delighted to welcome Angus to Regnum Books and look forward to the wisdom, insight, and collaborative spirit he brings as Regnum enters this exciting new chapter.
